What's New at ABI World
Online Features of Interest to Consumer Bankruptcy Committee Members

  • Read the latest on Networking in the bankruptcy world and Bankruptcy--By the Numbers, now available at ABI World. Provided by Dow Jones Newswires, the online columns are updated monthly and provide the latest news on appointments, new hires, what's happening in the courts around the nation and much more.

  • Read a recent Cracking the Code article, entitled, "Tenants Beware: Could Your Right to Possession Be in Jeopardy Due to Your Landlord's Bankruptcy?" by Steven B. Towbin. Since at least 1978, when the Bankruptcy Code was enacted, lessees of real property could feel secure that even if their landlord filed for protection under chapter 7 or 11 of the Code, their right to continue to occupy their leased premises was protected as long as they continued to pay rent and otherwise perform under the lease. That may have changed due to the Seventh Circuit's decision in Precision Industries Inc. v. Qualitech Steel SBQ LLC (In re Qualitech Steel Corp.), ____ F.3d ____, 2003 WL 1918405 (7th Cir. 2003).

  • Look for the latest ABI Journal in your mailbox in a few weeks. The latest issue features "Affairs of State: Earned Income Tax Credit and 'Head of Household' Status: Benefits or Burdens?" "Consumer Corner: The Sad State of Mortgage Service Providers," and "Bankruptcy by the Numbers: Be It Ever So Humble, There's No Place Like Home."

  • Looking for a new employee or searching for a new job? Check out the new ABI Career Center-the one-stop site for job seekers and employers in the insolvency community. Stop by to set up your personal profile or search the available positions (over 120 on average). Employers are invited to post free job listings and search the job-seeker database for possible candidates.

  • Check out the latest Collier Case Update offered at ABI World. Case summaries are available to ABI members.

  • The latest edition of the West Bankruptcy Newsletter is now available. Provided by West Group, the newsletter is a weekly update on bankruptcy and debtor/creditor matters.

  • Read the previous Consumer Bankruptcy Committee e-Newsletter online.
