Read a recent
Cracking the Code
article, entitled "The
U.S. Department of Agriculture's Low-Cost Food Plan," by Mark
Lino. For more than 100 years, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)
has prepared guides people may use to select nutritious diets at different
cost levels. The Low-cost Food Plan is often used by bankruptcy courts
to determine the portion of a bankruptee's income to allocate to necessary
individual or household food expenses. To give bankruptcy courts a better
understanding of the Low-cost Food Plan, this article will describe the
plan in more detail.
