The ABI 27th Annual Spring Meeting
The 27th Annual Spring Meeting: Washington, DC like you have never seen it before! Located a few minutes from Capitol Hill, on the historic Potomac River, the Gaylord National Resort & Spa offers the most deluxe meeting and event space in the area. This year's conference will be held April 1-4 and will have a special focus on the tough policy choices facing the new administration and Congress.
The Ethics Committee will hold a session on Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. entitled "Caveat Consuasor (Let the Advisor Beware): Ethics Missteps and Lessons in Client Management, Representation and Advocacy Found in Recent Ruling." Panelists will discuss the advantages and limitations of representing one or more creditors or interest holders in relation to the requirements set forth in Bankruptcy Rule 2019. Prof. Margaret Howard of Washington & Lee Law School in Lexington, Va. will moderate the session. Panelists will include Ramona D. Elliott of the Executive Office for U.S. Trustees in Washington, D.C., O. Max Gardner, III of Gardner Law Offices, PLLC in Shelby, N.C., Jeffrey K. The general session, "Ethical Issues for Creditors in Consumer Cases," will also be of interest to the committee. Panelists will discuss recent sanctions that courts have imposed on mortgage servicers and the types of practices that were found objectionable. Prof. G. Ray Warner of St. John's University School of Law in Jamaica, N.Y. will moderate the session. Robert S. Bernstein of the Bernstein Law Firm, PC in Pittsburgh and Ramona D.
