Committee to Hold Joint Meeting with International Committee at 2004 Winter Leadership Conference

The Financial Advisors and International Committees will present a joint educational program at ABI’s Winter Leadership Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., Dec. 4, 2004, from 9:30–10:45 am. The program will provide a quick global tour of what we have to look forward to in the coming year. The panelists for the program include Peter Spratt, Managing Director of PWC’s Global Restructuring Services Group, Daniel O’Brien of Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Reorganization Services Group and Robert Dangremond, Co-Managing Principal of AlixPartners. Becky Roof, AlixPartners LLC, and George M. Kelakos, Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe LLP, will serve as co-moderators of the program.

Empirical data suggests that companies that emerge from chapter 11 are more likely to file for “chapter 22” than those that never filed. In general, companies that emerge from bankruptcy protection never reach their former level of strength and vitality. This article explores the principal reasons for “chapter 22” filings as well as the forces that encourage reorganization as the preferred chapter 11 outcome.
