ABI's 29th Annual Spring Meeting will be held March 31 - April 3, in National Harbor, Md. The Financial Advisors Committee will present a session titled “Bankruptcy Practice and the Law of Unintended Consequences: Be Careful What You Wish For." Also of interest to the committee will be the session titled "The World According to the CRO," which will discuss credibility and confidence of management issues that new financial advisors face upon their appointment. The Financial Advisors Committee made a joint presentation with the Investment Banking Committee at the Winter Leadership Conference in December titled "Out of the Frying Pan and into the Fryer: Today's Restaurant Industry and the Challenges Ahead in Surviving the Decay of Everything a Sector Needs to Stay Viable." The session discussed leasing issues faced by struggling restaurant owners, provided various charts and graphs to visually display current trends and presented facts and figures based on the types of restaurants. The panel was moderated by Franklind D. Lea of Tactical Financial Consulting, LLC in Alpharetta, Ga. The panel also included Adam G. Landis of Landis Rath & Cobb LLP in Wilmington, Del.; Derek Pitts of Houlihan Lokey in New York; Randy Schultz of Regions Financial Corporation in Alpharetta, Ga.; and Steven Simms of FTI Consulting, Inc. in New York.

At ABI's recent Caribbean Insolvency Symposium in Grand Cayman, there was a presentation of interest to the committee titled "The Emperor's New Clothes: Financial Regulatory Reform -- Market Impacts." The panel discussed the Dodd - Frank Act and it's impact on non-US foreign financial firms, US federal regulations and some key international implications of the Act. The panel was moderated by Prof. Cornelius K. Hurley of the Boston University School of Law in Boston, and also included Gail Johnson-Goring of Cayman Islands Monetary Authority in Grand Cayman and Gary M. Welsh of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in McLean, Va.
