Materials from the ABI Caribbean Insolvency Symposium

The 5th Annual Caribbean Insolvency Symposium was held February 5-7 at the beautiful Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa on Grand Cayman Island.  This year’s program featured top speakers on distressed debt in one of the world’s major financial centers.  The educational program provided attendees with an interactive learning experience led by prominent bankruptcy judges as well as experienced practitioners.  Several of the sessions were of particular interest to the committee.

Panelists in the session “Alternatives to Chapter 15: U.S./Caribbean,” discussed the dramatic changes to cross-border trade and related lending and investment structures in recent years and the international effort towards insolvency law reform.  Patricia A. Redmond of Stearns, Weaver, Miller, Weissler, Alhadeff & Sitterson, PA in Miami moderated the session.  Panelists included Andrew Bolton of Appleby in Grand Cayman, Peter B. The session, “New and Exciting Development in Chapter 15,” provided background on cross-border cases before chapter 15, the purpose and application of chapter 15 and a review of recent cases. Committee Session at the 27th Annual Spring Meeting

The 27th Annual Spring Meeting: Washington, DC like you have never seen it before!
