ABI is pleased to announce the 2011-2012 International Committee Co-chairs - Mark Deveno of Bingham McCutchen LLP in Tokyo, Annerose Tashiro of Schultze & Braun GmbH in Achern, Germany and Victor Vilaplana of Foley & Lardner LLP in San Diego. Ms. Tashiro and Mr. Deveno are new to committee leadership and Mr. Vilaplana has been promoted from his previous position as Education Director.

GLOBAL INSOLvency is a joint project of the American Bankruptcy Institute and INSOL International that serves as a comprehensive source of information both on current issues in international insolvency and restructuring law and on the legal framework for insolvency and restructuring around the world. From current commentary, recent filings and daily news headlines to international protocols, bankruptcy statutes and advice on cross-border lending, the GLOBAL INSOLvency site offers a range of information for insolvency practitioners, judges, accountants, trustees and others. Plus, with over 40 Member Associations world-wide topping more than 9,000 professionals participating as members of INSOL International, the site offers plenty of opportunities for networking.
Coming soon! ABI will be adding a section to the GLOBAL INSOLvency website on Chapter 15, which will offer headlines, legislative history and commentary and related sections of the Code and Rules.
At the 13th Annual New York City Bankruptcy Conference, held May 6th, there was a timely session titled "International Panel: Current Issues, the Interplay between Chapters 15 and 11." The panel focused on a variety of differences and areas of overlap between Chapters 15 and 11, foreign nondebtors and representatives and developments involving a debtor's "center of main interests," or COMI. Alan W. Kornberg of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP in New York moderated the session. The panelists, all from New York, included the Hon. Stuart M. Bernstein of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York, Luc A. Despins of Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP, Lindsee P. Granfield of Cleary, Gottlien, Steen & Hamilton LLP, Evan C. Hollander of White & Case LLP and Ira A. Reid of Baker & McKenzie LLP.

Save the Date! ABI is pleased to host this year’s International Insolvency & Restructuring Symposium in Dublin, Ireland. The program is scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2011 at the Westin Dublin, and will highlight current international insolvency topics.
