ABI Endowment Funding: Impact on New Laws
Several Endowment-funded initiatives contributed to important new bankruptcy-related legislation:
- SBRA (Pub L 116-54), which creates a new Subchapter V for small business reorganization, was inspired by the recommendations contained in the final report of the ABI Commission to Study the Reform of Chapter 11 (2014).
- HAVEN Act (Pub L 116-52) assists financially stressed disabled servicemembers and was supported by the ABI Veterans Affairs Task Force and funded by the ABI Endowment.
- ABI Consumer Commission's final report (2019) endorsed the HAVEN Act and makes suggestions for the treatment of student loan debt in bankruptcy. It has already been cited by bankruptcy courts around the country.
