A Message from Christopher Ward, ABI's New Vice President – Development

I am honored to be named Vice President-Development and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of ABI. I have big shoes to fill in replacing Robert Reynolds, who was truly dedicated to the Endowment and is now our President-Elect! I want to thank Robert, as well as incoming ABI President Judge Barbara Houser and outgoing President Alane Becket, for their service and dedication to ABI.

Given the precarious situation we are all living through, the Endowment needs your support more than ever. No aspect of our lives has gone unchanged. The same holds true for the institutions that we cherish and support. My wife, Christine, and I have been long-time supporters of the Endowment. When confronted with difficult times, we strive to lead by example, so we will be making a $2,500 donation to the Endowment.

As most of you likely know, some of the biggest fundraising activities for the Endowment are silent auctions, which are held at national and regional events. Right now, we cannot meet in-person to take advantage of these opportunities. But why should that stop us! Stay tuned for the details of an online silent auction to benefit the Endowment. We will not let this pandemic get in the way of our future. I look forward to this opportunity to serve you as Vice President-Development and shepherd the Endowment through what will undoubtedly be difficult times, but they will pass, and ABI and its members will be an incredible resource to the recovery of our global economy when it does. Godspeed.

Cinco de Mayo is Also #GivingTuesdayNow

#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 — in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020, #GivingTuesday — as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Please consider making a special donation to the ABI Endowment on (or before) May 5. ABI and insolvency professionals will be on the new frontline as global economies respond to the COVID19 pandemic. Your donation to the ABI Endowment during these times will ensure that ABI can better support the efforts of the insolvency community.

ABI Endowment Fund Receives $100,000 Donation from Liquidation Trust

The ABI Endowment Fund is pleased to be the recent recipient of a $100,000 residual gift from DNIB Liquidating Trustee Geoffrey L. Berman of Development Specialists, Inc., and Trust Counsel Peter M. Gilhuly and Kimberly A. Posin of Latham and Watkins LLP. The gift was made upon the successful conclusion of the administration of the DNIB Liquidation Trust, which was created pursuant to the order confirming the liquidation plan for DNIB Unwind Inc., f/k/a Bind Therapeutics Inc. The trust agreement provided for the disbursement of unclaimed-trust distributions to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. These distributions were made upon entry of the court’s order terminating the trust and paving the way for this much-appreciated gift.
